New Year's Day skiing...very good!
We arrived and wondered, Where is everybody? (We forgot the hangover factor).
We opted for breakfast to kill time since we couldn't see much snow kicking
up. Advice: do not expect much at the Teddy Bear Cafe. SD got stone cold eggs.
After snagging a good parking spot, we sauntered up. Still not a lot of people
considering it was a holiday. In fact, our longest lift wait was maybe one
minute the entire day. Most of the time we just skied right on. On my last run
I got in line behind a man in a banana suit!
Conditions were very good! The snow was soft in spots, there were no bare
spots or obstacles on any of the open runs. Over by Chairs 7 and 10 there was
hardly a soul!
The worst part of the day was crossing over by the snow cannon that was at the
top of Olympic Bowl. Ay carumba that thing is nasty. We would have to stop and
put our faces back on.
Bluebird day, coldish but not uncomfortable at all, and no crowds on the
slopes. They showed up for the 4 hour crawl back down, but all in all a great
day! I am always amazed at what the snowmaking experts can do with so little
down here, hats off to them.
