Arrived at East resort around 12:30 for a quick afternoon session. Snow was
suprisingly good - hard packed, fast, and just enough coverage. I imagined
these are the conditions that ski racers would love. Temperatures were a
little warmer than last Thursday which made the turns a little easier and my
confidence grew with each trip down the slope. After a couple of laps, I was
laying down turns at breakneak speed. As the afternoon sun began to set and
the shadows grew longer, the snow returned to it's icy orgins. Ran into Baldy
Jeff late in the day - always good to see a familiar face on the hill.
Optimism gleamed in his eyes as he spoke of the "late winter" he anticipates
on the wrong side of the San Gabriels this year. Let's hope that he's right
and that I get to post a few more reports this year...
