After reading the recent report here about Mt. Pinos, I decided to give it a
shot. I haven't been up there in years. I enjoyed myself. I skied from the
Chula Vista parking lot up to Condor Peak. The trail was hard, but not really
icy. The open fields were mostly crusty, with some icy areas. Some fresh
powder could still be found in the trees, but there were plenty of crusty/icy
areas in there, too, so I had to be careful. Great coverage. I also skied some
on the opposite side of the parking lot, past the snow play area. I stopped at
the McGill Campground on the way down for about a half hour. Old tracks are
hardened, but skiable. Just keep speed under control on the downhills. Very
nice day. Quiet, peaceful. (No guarantees on the weekend, though).
