www.shirleymeadows.comAlta Sierra at Shirley Meadows is a very small ski area but fun, especially if you have a young family or if you are with beginner skiers/boarders. I drove up from LA (192 miles each way) on a Fri after the area had received some recent snow. I skied all day on a few powder runs, sharing the hill with only a handful of people. There are only two lifts. There are a few pretty difficult tree runs (very dense), but they are short. Lift tickets are cheap and and the atmosphere is very friendly. See photos I posted.

2008-2009 trail map.
Only major change from 2007-2008 (re-opening year) was that "No Name Trail" under chair 3 was renamed "Brien's Shoot"

Sierra Summit is located at Huntington Lake in the Central Sierra about 50 miles East of Fresno off Rt. 168. Real fun mountain, great family atmosphere and inexpensive lodge (with cozy apres bar) located at the base. As the crow flies it is about 20 miles southwest of Mammoth Mtn, which means it gets plenty of snow.
