Got a bit late start, but hit CH 4 about 10:30..still some nice lines, but the
snow was REALLY soupy over there from the sun..and the visability at times was
thick as well.
Surpised to see such weekday crowds, but the word is out, and Baldy has ALOT
of snow for the first time in what seems like eternity..North-facing aspects
still had some relatively "light" stuff, but most lift accessed stuff was
tracked up. Wed. must have been the day, or the other days during the storm
apparently, if you could see anything. Visability went from good to horrible
quite often at various spots, so we decided to stay out of the bowls for that
reason along with the high Avy danger.
It was probably the quickest I have seen Baldy tracked after a storm in
years..seems like you could go days after a storm in the past and still ifnd
lots of freshies in the trees, but as I said, very tracked unless you hiked
back alot.
Took several runs around the catwalk to the far east side and had several
small vert powder runs..very fun.. Also hit the far south "parking lot" chutes
on the way down..tracked, but soft and fun.. sorry, I never know run names at
ski areas, I just GO!
Overall, great day on the mtn, good times, and pretty good snow. Stopped at
the Baldy Lodge for a beer and sandwhich, and also had some lunch at the
notch..the poor people are slammed, but everyone was cool adn didn;t seem to
mind, including my usually impatient self..they do the best they can.
Beware, Avalanche Advisory is in effect for the area (San Gabriels) this
weekend (feb 25-27)!!!
