no lift lines. plenty of snow on the face runs. the best thing was that the
short hike at the top of carson was groomed. that made it much easier than
usual to hit that incredibly long powder run down to the parking lot.
i'm not a big park rider, but i did take a break from the steeps to check out
the mambo park. it had quite a nice layout. i think i was able to hit 7 jumps
of varying sizes on each run. due to the lack of traffic, the lips and
landings remained perfect throughout the weekend.
i wish i got there on friday instead of saturday. by the time i got there,
most of the really fresh snow on the face and in between the trees had already
been tracked out. still, the coverage was great everywhere. i'm guessing that
june mtn will be open at least into mid april.
it's a small mountain, but after a good storm, it will still keep you more
than occupied for a weekend. it's worth the drive to ride such an empty
mountain. this is especially true for beginners. june has nice long and wide
green runs to learn on. plus there's a nice range of slightly steeper runs to
progress on. this weekend, i had a newbie friend who just about got the hang
of carving after just 2 days. i'm sure the lack of crowds and quality terrain
contributed greatly.
