Wow. Schwing. Yummy.
BEST CONDITIONS YET THIS SEASON!
Today was was one of those days where you were moving cubic yards of snow with
every turn. Where you were the only one working a section of trees run after
run. Where you could huck with abandon over bumps and ledges into 3’ snow
banks. One of those days where your legs quit before the snow did. A day where
you pat yourself on the back for having the foresight to invest in fat skis.
In other words, the kind of day I’ve been waiting for all season!
I took out the 185 Pocket Rockets (with T1s and 7TM bindings) and made my best
effort to track every steep line I could find. There were about 200 local kids
on a snow day with the same intentions, so it was a mad dash to be the first
to get to the fresh stuff all day. There were still good untouched lines at
the end of the day, but it wasn’t for lack of trying; there simply weren’t
enough of us to do the job.
The storm blew from the SW Tuesday and Tuesday night and put down about 10”
of light-ish powder, with the lee slopes (NE aspects) holding 2-3 feet of new
snow. The daytime temps were cold enough (high 20s) that the snow never ‘set
up’ and the trees were all still white at 4PM. This despite bluebird
conditions all day. A a little windy (30-40 mph gusts) at the top but no one
was complaining.
