Typically strange and beautiful day at Baldy. Hardcore skiers out for a day of sunsine and snow down to the parking lot. After the Beckett play that is getting tickets at the Baldy window (15 minutes for 3 people in front of me), I took the meditation machine, er, chairlift up to the top where nice cruising hardpack awaited. Old timers in their time-machine skinny 205s carved down the runs and guided the newbies to Nightmare, which had about 6 different types of snow conditions, from chunder to corn, all of it carveable and a blast to bomb down. Local Dave and I lapped #1 for three hours, finding steeps lines through the trees and wondering why no one else was there. You have to love Baldy -- by rights they should have hung it up a long time ago, but they hang in there, and we are all the luckier for it. God bless them.
